Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground beef, browned
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/2 t paprika
  • 1/2 t celery seed
  • 2 c mirepoix or, 1 c onion, 1/2 c celery, 1/2 c carrots, all diced and sauteed with the ground beef during last part of cooking
  • 1/2 c beef broth
  • 1/4 c frozen peas
  • 1 t Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 c prepared mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes see Sweet Potato Mash recipe

Instructions
 

  • Brown ground beef and drain.
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper, add garlic powder, paprika, and celery seed.
  • Add prepared mirepoix or diced vegetables (onion, carrots, celery) and cook until veggies are tender, about 10 minutes. Add beef broth as needed to keep the mixture moist.
  • Add peas, Worcestershire sauce, and check flavor, adding salt and pepper if needed.
  • Spoon into a pie plate. Top with mashed potatoes or mashed sweet potatoes. Bake at 350° for 20-30 minutes until bubbly.
