Set A Snowy Table

It’s fun to play around with dishes and accessories to make your holiday table look festive and invite everyone to gather around at mealtime. You can set a snowy table with this cute design, all assembled with items you probably already have on hand!

These snowmen place settings were created using plain dinnerware (three sizes: dinner plate, salad plate, and saucer); regular forks, knives, and spoons; a cloth napkin, a paper beverage napkin, and an assortment of food items for buttons and facial features. The options are limitless, but what I used, straight from my fridge and pantry, included:

  • dried cranberries
  • raisins
  • cereal pieces
  • nuts
  • snow caps/chocolate chips
  • raspberries
  • clementine slice
  • olives
  • croutons
  • carrot pieces

I also thought of using:

  • bell pepper slices/bits
  • popcorn
  • licorice
  • crackers (maybe goldfish?)
  • M&Ms
  • radishes
  • beans
  • blueberries or blackberries
  • other fruit or vegetable pieces

Truly, whatever you have on hand can create an army of unique or uniform little snowmen!

Set A Snowy Table for a Family

I used two sizes of plates for each snowman, and I played with making both large and small men. The adult-sized snowmen used a dinner plate and salad plate, while the child-sized ones utilized a salad plate and saucer. They’re all so cute together, and I like the idea of giving each snowman a theme to suit the person who will be using that place.

A little girl gets the “Frozen” cocktail napkin hat and cute little silverware, or the child who devours olives gets a whole bunch of them on their snowman.  A black cocktail napkin lends a more formal look with their sophisticated top hats.

Set A Snowy Table for a Party

Using salad plates for both sizes of snowmen may use up your supply of dinnerware, but you can easily dip into another set of dishes, even with a design on them. (Or do I assume too much, since I have inherited my mother’s love for dishes and have several sets?) Or get together with a friend to use their dishes and create lots of fun snowmen for your party table.

When it’s mealtime, just eat up the decorations and proceed to fill those empty plates with the real food!

Here are some possible ideas for your snowman meal:

Crock Pot or Baked Lasagna

Green Bean Bundles

Cream Puffs

Thanks, Mom! I don’t know if we’ll get to use this idea much this year for guests, but it is fun even with just those of us living here!
